Why do we call God Father? Can we think of God as “mother”? Is this not an important question? Is what’s more important our relationship with God? But since our relationship with God is so important, why do we label it with a certain gender? Because I see God as an eternal “parent” not specifically “Father” or “Mother”, is that okay? I heard pastor Dennis once describe a cult that the people believe God was a woman, is there such a cult? Is it dangerous to believe God as a woman? Why can’t God be a woman? I’m not exactly a femminist, hehe, that’s not the reason I raise this question, I still refer to my God as Father, Jesus, Son of God. Because that’s what I’ve been taught and I’ve been living to call Him. This question is more for the non-believers who are turned off because of the single-ness of gender label in Christianity. Is that why Catholicism worship Mother Mary? How does this affects Protestant Christianity? Are we losing people because simply of a pronoun? Because there’s certainly more to God than just a discussion of He/She. He is much bigger than all of that. What is truly important in our discussions about Christ? The minor details or what the true meaning of Jesus’ teachings? Love your neighbor, a sentence as simple as that, have we put that to action before we start questioning God? I personally have not done a lot of things God told me in the bible (I’ve done a couple), do I have a right to question God’s gender? That’s kind of like asking your parent what gender they are, it’s probably not as important as whether they love you. Of course they love you. Just like God, there’s no doubt that God loves us very very very much. So I guess my question is…I dun really know what to question, I just want to ask how to help non-believers better understand it’s not about He/She, whether the minor details in the bible we can argue, but what is truly important? that’s all…Thank you.
